Walk Overview

Australia’s Gondwana Rainforests contain the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world. Four of the National Parks within Queensland’s Scenic Rim region have been granted World Heritage Gondwana Rainforest listing in recognition of their scientific and conservation importance. In addition to the lush rainforests, the Scenic Rim chain of dramatic mountain ridges forms part of Australia’s Great Dividing Range. The spectacular arc of forested peaks was created by ancient volcanic activity. With its proximity to Brisbane (100km), it is not surprising that this unique region is a genuine walkers’ haven.

Some of the best walks are to be found in the western part of the Scenic Rim within the Main Range National Park, the Mount Barney National Park and the Moogerah Peaks National Park. These parks offer well-marked tracks which feature picturesque rockpools, gorges, rivers, eucalypt forests, palm groves, seasonal wildflowers and dense rainforests. For those wanting more of a challenge, there are numerous peaks and escarpment lookouts affording fabulous vistas over the surrounding valleys and beyond.

The Scenic Rim region offers day and multi-day walks and there are a number of tour operators offering a variety of walking trips. Some guided tours undertake a selection of walks within the national parks and provide luxury accommodation and meals at local lodges. Other tour operators offer a mix of walking together with visits to local wineries, art galleries, museums and food producers. Alternatively, you can opt for an all inclusive luxury guided tour which leads walks through a combination of private property tracks and national park trails, provides luxury camping/cabin/lodge accommodation and includes all meals/beverages.
