The attraction of walking in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park

The Oxley Wild Rivers National Park is part of the World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests of Australia - a listing which recognises its rare and extensive dry rainforests. It is situated in the Northern Tablelands (also known as the New England Tableland) which is a region of the Great Dividing Range in northern New South Wales. Covering 145,223 hectares, the park is one of the largest national parks in New South Wales and lies 445 km north of Sydney.

The New England high country contains dramatic landscape forged long ago by massive eruptions of the Ebor volcano. It is home to the Apsley Macleay gorges which is one of the largest  gorge systems in Australia. There are at least 14 waterfalls to visit including Wollomombi Falls which is the highest waterfall in New South Wales. Walkers are also treated to spectacular ridge top views, wild rivers, Antarctic beech stands and an array of wildlife.

The park is a popular destination for walking, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Accommodation in the park includes designated campsites, heritage stockmens’ huts and and historic homesteads.
