Snowies Alpine Walk Opens

The Snowies Alpine Walk was officially opened on 2 December 2024. A combination of new, upgraded and existing tracks has delivered a 56 km route, linking Guthega, Charlotte Pass, Perisher Valley and Bullock’s Flat.

This NSW Government initiative - which has been several years in the making - is part of the State Government’s on-going push to catch other Australian States in the multi-day walk segment of the eco-tourism market. (See our 27 June 2022 News item.)

The walk is located in the Thredbo-Perisher area of Kosciuszcko National Park. It offers snow gum forests, high country plains and glacial lakes, as well as a crossing of the Snowy River and an opportunity to summit Mt Kosciuszko.

The typical itinerary is:

  • Day 1 - Guthega to Charlotte Pass - 9km

  • Day 2 - Charlotte Pass to Charlotte Pass via Main Range - 22km

  • Day 3 - Charlotte Pass to Perisher Valley - 12.7km

  • Day 4 - Perisher Valley to Bullocks Flat - 12km.

The development has not involved walkers huts or new camping areas. There is existing accommodation at Charlotte Pass and Perisher Valley, as well as nearby towns/villages, such as Jindabyne, Guthega and Thredbo. Transport providers are expected to provide seasonal services tailored to those undertaking the Snowies Alpine Walk.
