After some COVID-related delays, south-east Queensland’s newest multi-day walk opened in July this year. It’s located in the Main Range National Park, only 90 minutes’ drive west of Brisbane.

The Scenic Rim Trail has been jointly developed by privately owned ‘Spicers Resorts’ (owned by Graham and Jude Turner, founders of Flight Centre) and the Queensland Government. The arrangement involves Spicers being permitted to build two sets of private lodges in the National Park and independent walkers being provided with new walking paths and three walkers’ camps.

The Scenic Rim Trail is 47 kilometres long. It starts at the Thornton View Trailhead and finishes at Cunninghams Gap. Most walkers undertake it in four days (three nights). The track is graded 4-5 on the Australian Track Grading System.

Immersion in the World Heritage Listed Gondwana Rainforest is a big part of the trail’s appeal. In addition, it’s an elevated walk; most of the walk is above 1,000m, meaning vast, sweeping views are regularly on offer.

Spicers offer a range of guided walks, using their inspired private accommodation as well as private land owned by them adjacent to the National Park. Trip lengths range from 3-7 days.
