50th Anniversary of England's Cleveland Way

This year marks the 50th anniversary of England's second oldest National Trail, the Cleveland Way.

The Cleveland Way is located in North Yorkshire, some 40 kilometres north of York. It starts in Helmsley and takes a horseshoe route across the North York Moors National Park to the North Sea coast at Saltburn, then down the coast to finish at Filey. All up it's about 176 kilometres in length.

Yesterday, The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, visited the trail to help in the celebrations. At Saltburn, where the trail hits the coast, Princess Anne strolled along a stretch of the path and unveiled a new Cleveland Way signpost. There is footage of the Princess on the trail and whilst the boots are impressive she doesn't look quite kitted out for the usual Saltburn to Sandsend 27 km segment.
