Lamington and Springbrook National Parks
The attraction of walking in Lamington and Springbrook National Parks
These two National Parks form part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area and are referred to in local indigenous legends. The area is classified as world heritage due to it being the most extensive area of subtropical rainforest in the world and home to a wide range of rare and protected plants and animals.
There has long been two much-loved lodges in the Lamington National Park - O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat and Binna Burra Lodge. Sadly, Binna Burra Lodge suffered significant structural loss during recent bushfires and is not currently open for business. Whilst the owners of Binna Burra hope to rebuild, this will be a long process. Fortunately, O’Reilly’s survived the fires and continues to offer rustic walkers’ lodgings as well as newly constructed, fully appointed and self contained villas. O’Reilly’s provides spectacular views, is steeped in history and is a big part of the attraction of Lamington.
Being a short drive from Queenland’s ritzy Gold Coast and not much further from Brisbane, Lamington and Springbrook have been well-visited for many years, so the walks and walking facilities available are extensive.
