Spain’s popularity as a walking destination has grown dramatically as a result of the flourishing interest in Spain’s several pilgrim trails (“caminos”) leading to the historic town of Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. These trails deservedly rank amongst the world’s great walks.
Aside from the caminos, Spain offers a diverse range of walking regions. The cliffs and wild terrain of Spain’s Atlantic coast contrast markedly with the warm relaxed coves and beaches along the Mediterranean Sea. The remarkable Pyrenees provide endless walking possibilities along the France/Spain border.
Then there are the dramatic mountain ranges of the south - the well-known Sierra Nevada and the lesser-known Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de Aracena.
On this page, Spain’s iconic walks are divided between North Spain and South Spain. Click on the North Spain or South Spain button below to skip to that section, or just scroll down.
